Judge a day by what you sow not what you harvest

Feeling gently ruined by a day on the plots. 3 broad bean types in. Triomphe de farcie haricot verts in. Christo garlic over wintered fiery and ready to harvest. Spuds in. Strawberries bought so cheated there. Using rocket garden voucher too for loads of stuff so more cheating. 15 salad varieties in. Lots of old seed which is best before 2007 I've chucked in ground to see what happens. Sugar snap seems to expire particularly quickly. Spring is fun.

WW2 bomb shelter

WW2 bomb shelter
that's right, we found a bomb shelter when digging the footings of our new house. It used to be next to a kitchen garden. I had a veg patch above this bit of ground but it never seemed to grow much - we found out why. Council weren't interested and we were advised to fill it in for safety.

waterlogged tin bath

waterlogged tin bath
The tin bath is usually bone dry so I've never wanted to puncture holes in it for drainage. This year the carrots and asparagus peas are swimming in 3 inches of water. I've tried draining with a bucket but suspect the roots will all rot now.

Vix and potatoes

Vix and potatoes
Cleared the autumn sown assorted onion bed. First row of lettuce in and 2 types of spud. Garlic in. Cabbage sown in trays. Tomatoes sown in large trays at my mums but suspect Yew Tree needles in the compost making it poisonous so will see. Asparagus plants in a big pot need to be replanted from previous plot but too late to disturb so will take what little produce they might deliver from current setting
